7 Tips for Camping in Africa

April 25, 2016

Tip #1: Close to the river is nice, but not TOO close.

Tip #2: Zip up the tent, regardless of how short you intend to be out of it.

Tip #3: If taking a nap in the chair, remain calm when you wake up to a noise. They will usually walk around you.

Tip #4: Do not get between the hippo and the water.

Those two black bumps in the middle of the photo are hippos. Or as they call them around here, “Eepos”.

Tip #5: When cooking dinner, expect company.

Tip #6: Choose your shade wisely. Everybody wants to be in the shade in the heat of the day.

Tip #7: Always look outside the tent before climbing out.

  1. Pat, have you heard this saying, “Eyes in front I like to hunt. Eyes to the side I like to hide.” That lion looks hungry. Take care you don’t become lunch. We like camping but…

    • I had not heard that, but I like it, and it seems to be correct. I watched two lions hunting the other day, including the one that I took that photo of. Huge, incredible cats.

    • Thanks! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go deflate my big head so I can fit in the tent tonight. 🙂

    • Nothing set in stone yet, but likely to Europe around end of May (I have a ferry ticket and camp site for Isle of Man TT races first part of June). Have to catch up with Ian in Scotland, Judith in Switzerland, possibly Daniel & Joey in Germany though they will likely be headed to South Africa before I get there, and some Polish friends in Wroclaw. Maybe others.

  2. And da banded mongoose says ” what u want me to wear a dress n dance da hula “
